Big Website Example
Higher Education Writing Sample
Based on existing content, detailed faculty surveys, and some 1-on-1 interviews with subject matter experts, I distilled critical information into functional and inspiring website content (majority of academic program pages) for the Tyler School of Art and Architecture website update in 2025. This required shaping content across multiple disciplines for different types of prospective students interested in vastly different types of degree programs. The samples below represent a few excerpts. The writing needed to make the most of the school’s new design template, so I encourage you to look at the live site to see how the words worked within specific graphic design spaces.

Program Overview Samples
Program overviews like the samples below require both the school’s voice, rooted in key messaging, and positioning for prospective students (and their families) in ways that motivate them to take action such as requesting more information or planning a campus visit. Art schools typically fall into one of two camps: a tiny art program stuck in the liberal arts section of the school or a stand-alone art school without the added benefit of a full, prestigious university. Tyler, with its stand-alone art school is unique.
Explore What’s Possible (Ceramics)
Tyler’s Ceramics BFA curriculum helps you explore the discipline’s many forms and gain diverse perspectives on processes. The faculty encourage all types of work — from sculptural and vessel to community-based collaboration and interdisciplinary exploration.
Due to the complexity of materials and processes, you also study relevant aspects of chemistry, technology, and kiln design and construction that affect your work.
Plus, Philadelphia’s longstanding and well-connected clay culture and vibrant visual art scene adds energy, inspiration and opportunities for internships and career exploration.
Why Tyler Sample (Architecture and Environmental Design)
5 Reasons to Study at Tyler
When choosing where to earn your degree in architecture, community development, city and regional planning, horticulture or landscape architecture, look at not only what you’ll learn but how you’ll learn it.
- Take STEM-influenced courses that give you a solid, functional foundation through experiential learning.
- Study with faculty experts who work in the field for hands-on training and 1-on-1 mentorship.
- Experience the creative boost and collaborative support from expansive studios, labs, community connections and close-knit cohort of classmates across our many allied disciplines.
- Immerse yourself in both the art and science of your chosen discipline.
- Feel embedded in the local community. Think of Philadelphia and the greater region’s historic and contemporary architecture, urban landscapes and natural areas as a living laboratory.
Curriculum Overview Samples
It isn’t easy to explain quickly how degree programs actually work, especially to people who don’t now how degree programs typically work. Curriculum overviews need to convey complex information in a clear (and motivational) way that spurs prospective students to express interest in the school. My goal with the samples below is to show why Tyler stands out and why earning a degree from there helps students stand out too.
Recognized for a Reason (Art Foundations)
The Tyler School of Art and Architecture provides a comprehensive education in art — where you develop a balance of conceptual and technical skills as an artist and creative-thinker.
Everything we require, every way we challenge you, everything you learn, builds upon your prior coursework and personal development …
The idea of studio artists working alone and somehow removed from the world is outdated. All that you are and all that you do exists at a crossroads.
That’s why Tyler encourages you to understand true collaboration as living, breathing relationships with people, nature, places and emerging issues.
Creativity Unleashed (Design & Illustration)
Tyler’s three design and illustration majors stand out by sharing many classes. That’s not the norm at other colleges and universities. We do it differently (and we think better) by making your education mirror your future professional life …
Your design and illustration degree options at Tyler also offer more flexibility to better fit your interests and skills, including those you don’t yet even recognize.
You really can do it all — or a bit of everything. No need to choose.
Transferable Skills Sample
Parents of prospective students worry a lot about if a degree will result in a viable career. That’s why I included sections on the degree program web pages about skills art students gain skills that transfer into any kind of career they may choose.
Art in Action
At Tyler, you gain broad, transferable skills as a thoughtful, collaborative and confident professional — in any career you choose.
- Effective written and visual communication
- Strong commitment and service to communities and professional networks
- Leadership in professional, social and civic actions
- Critical thinking about yourself and contemporary issues
- Flexibility in response to feedback or challenges
Short Form – UX Writing Sample
Sometimes, websites need to convey a lot of information in the simplest possible way. That’s when infographics come into play. Here’s an example that recaps all of the studio art degree programs and other bonus academic options in 3 quick stats. Pro Tip! It’s much harder to write short content.

Here’s another example of writing punchy blurbs that fit design spaces.

Small Website Example
I also enjoy writing websites for small businesses and solopreneurs. Check out these excerpts from a site I wrote for my own dog trainer. The content was so good that another marketing firm or writer stole all of the content for another dog trainer in our community. All. Of. It. We had to contact them and request they take the plagiarized content down.
Clear, Direct Position Statement Examples
Gentle, modern training for dogs and their people
I teach reward-based, force-free dog training to families in the Boulder area. Using humane, scientific learning theories, I’ll show you how to teach your dog to be a happy, well-behaved, and reliable companion. I will never use training tools that cause harm or fear such as choke collars, prong collars or shock collars.
